Profiles Overview & FAQ

What is a Profile? How does it differ from a Customer?

Profiles are people that you've added to Metorik, but don't exist on your store. People who have placed an order or exist in your Shopify or WooCommerce store will not appear here.

Can a Profile become a Customer?

Yes. If you have imported a profile who later goes on to make a purchase on your store, they will now be considered a Customer, and will be visible from the Customers page, not the profiles page.

Managing Profiles

Profiles are managed from the new Profiles page, founder under "Engage" in the sidebar: https://app.metorik.com/profiles. Profiles will not appear on the Customers page.

Importing Profiles

There are three ways to import profiles to your Metorik store:

  1. Import a CSV file
  2. Add a Single Profile
  3. Via API

1. Importing Profiles via CSV file

Visit the Profiles page in Metorik and click the blue "Add Profile" button on the top of the page.

Then, on the modal window that appears, you can download a template CSV file to add your profiles to, or you can use the exported CSV file you already have, and map the columns on the next step.

Note: for email consent status, the options are "Single", "Double" or leave it blank for none.

Once you've created your CSV file, you can simply drag and drop it onto the modal window to upload it, then click the "Next" button.

Metorik will then check the CSV column headings on your spreadsheet and try and match them up, but you change the mapping if we can't auto-detect the column names.

Once all the columns are mapped correctly, click the blue "Upload" button and Metorik will start to import the Profiles. You'll then see Profile Imports appear at the top of the page. Here you can see all the previous imports for your store, and the number of profiles imported, updated, or failed.

Once the import is complete, you can refresh the page and see the imported profiles:

2. Adding a Single Profile

To add a single profile, visit the Profile page and click the blue "Add Profile" button at the top.

Then on the modal that appears, click "Add or Update Single Profile" and enter their details. Once finished, click the "Add Profile" button.

The modal will disappear and you'll see the newly created profile appear in the table. If it's not appearing, try reordering the table by "Created" using the option on the top right.

3. Adding Profiles via API

See our Engage API guide for information on using the API.

Editing an existing profile

To edit an existing profile, you can either reimport them with updated information (we'll match them based on their email address), or you can edit them from their profile page in Metorik.

Simply click the "Edit" button and make the changes from the modal window, then click "Edit Profile" to save the changes.

Deleting/removing an existing profile

You can remove a profile from the Profiles page, or from the individual profile page.

From the Profiles overview page, click the checkbox next to their name(s), and then click the "Delete X Selected Profile" button that appears.

To remove a profile from the individual profile page, simply click the three dots icon, the click "Delete from Metorik.

Note:

  • You can delete multiple profiles at once.
  • You will be prompted to confirm the deletion of the profiles
  • There is no undo, so make sure to check you've selected the correct profiles

Emailing Profiles

At a glance:

  • You can send Automations and Broadcasts to Profiles
  • When setting up your Automation or Broadcast, make sure to select Customers.
  • You cannot add Profiles to Order, Cart, or Subscription Automations
  • You can add Profiles and Customers to the same Customer Automation or Broadcast

When setting up your Automation or Broadcast, make sure to select Customers.

Then, to include profiles, select the filter "Customer Type: is: Profiles"

If you need to include both Profiles and Customers to the same email, create an "ANY" set of grouped filters to include any Profiles that match X conditions, and any Customers that match Y conditions.

First, click the little dropdown arrow next on the Add Filter button:

Then, set up your two filter groups like below, making sure to select "any" from the drop down at the top of the segmenting area.

From there, click through to continue setting up your Automation or Broadcast as normal.
