Automation Activation: Sending Limits

When you're first activating an automation, depending on the number of current customers, orders, or subscriptions that match the rules, you're given the option to send it to both the current matches or just the future matches:

If there are a high number of current matches (1000+), we may not allow you to send it to the current matches, but just future matches:

If this happens for you, we recommend sending a Broadcast to the historical matches, and then an Automation for all future matches.

To do this, first set up and send your Broadcast, then, when setting up your Automation audience, add the filter "Engage Email Triggered: is not in" and select the Broadcast you sent. This will exclude any customers who already received the email.

Transactional emails

If the automation is set to be transactional (eg. an order receipt email), the limit will be 50, as transactional emails should never be sent in bulk.

Broadcasts

Broadcasts are currently in beta, so there may be a limit in place. Please contact us for assistance or send to a smaller audience.

Why?

Currently Engage is not intended for bulk emailing, so sending 1000's of emails at once to your customers may cause your emails to end up in SPAM and hurt your sending reputation.

Exceptions can be made depending on the type of email being sent, so send us a message and we will check for you.

We are also planning to add broadcasts (bulk emailing) to the app for everyone soon.
