Preparing for Google Analytics’ Universal Analytics Sunset
As you may already know, Google Analytics is sunsetting Universal Analytics (UA) as of 1st July, 2024. You can read more from Google on this change here.
This change means that data previously tracked and stored under your UA property will no longer be available to Google Analytics users or via their API. To ensure our customers continue to have access to these incredibly valuable historical analytics and insights, we’ve made several updates to Metorik to capture and store this UA data from Google Analytics before it gets deleted forever.
Haven't yet connected your store to Google Analytics?
Do it immediately to avoid losing access to your UA data in Metorik:
Check if your store is connected: Store Integrations & Connections
Learn more here: Metorik Integration: Google Analytics and Ads
These updates are designed to facilitate a seamless transition from UA to GA4 and maintain the robust analytics and powerful reporting you’ve come to rely on from Metorik.
What do these changes mean for your store?
If your store is connected to Google Analytics;
Your historical UA "view data" has been stored
We’ve ensured that all historical UA view data is now securely stored within Metorik. This data will not be deleted unless you request us to do so, or if you cancel your subscription and/or remove your store from Metorik.
Orders Report & Dashboard updates
The main Orders Report and Dashboard now utilize the stored UA view data. Instead of fetching data from Google each time the report is loaded, we leverage the historical data we’ve stored for you. This change ensures that your reports remain consistent and accessible.
Products & Devices Report update
The Products and Devices reports will no longer pull or use UA data. These reports now exclusively utilize the live data from Google Analytics 4 (GA4), ensuring up-to-date and relevant analytics.
No changes to our GA4 Integration
We'll continue to fetch live GA4 data from Google on the spot. When your reporting period spans a timeframe where both UA and GA4 is available, we'll seamlessly combine the data to provide a comprehensive view.
Ad-cost data won't be removed automatically
When the Google Analytics integration is removed, or ad cost syncing from Google is disabled, we no longer remove all ad costs. Instead, we retain UA ad costs while only removing GA4 ad costs from the earliest date onwards. This ensures that your historical ad cost data remains intact and useful if you wanted to turn it back on in the future. If you'd like us to permanently remove your UA data, just let us know.
These updates are designed to reduce the impact of Google's sunsetting of UA as much as possible, maintaining the integrity and accessibility of your historical data, while leveraging the latest GA4 data from Google Analytics.
