Quickstart

Connect your Shopify store

Connecting your Shopify store to Metorik takes just a few clicks. Once connected, Metorik will automatically sync your orders, customers, products, and discounts so you can start exploring your store's data.

Before you start

You'll need:

  • A Shopify store (your store URL, like yourstore.myshopify.com)

  • A Metorik account (a free trial works perfectly)

Connect your store

1

Go to the Add Store page

Visit app.metorik.com/add-a-store or click the Add Store button in your Metorik dashboard.

2

Enter your store URL

Type your Shopify store URL in the format yourstore.myshopify.com. This is the URL you use to log into Shopify admin.

3

Click Connect

You'll be redirected to Shopify to review and approve the connection.

4

Grant permissions in Shopify

Shopify will show you the permissions Metorik requests. Click Install app or Approve to proceed. See the permissions section below for details on what each permission allows.

5

Wait for the initial sync

Once approved, Metorik begins importing your data automatically. You'll receive an email when the sync completes—this typically takes a few minutes for smaller stores, or up to a few hours for stores with extensive order history.

Permissions explained

When connecting your store, Shopify asks you to approve these permissions:

  • View Customers — Enables customer reports, profiles, segmentation, and exporting.

  • View Orders — Enables order reports, segmentation, and exporting.

  • View Products — Enables product reports, inventory tracking, segmentation, and exporting.

  • Edit Other Data — Allows Metorik to create discount codes when you set up automated emails with discounts. Metorik only creates discounts when you explicitly configure them in an automation.

  • Edit Your Online Store — Installs a lightweight tracking script (Metorik.js) for attribution and conversion tracking. See the script details below.

  • View and Sync Discounts — Enables discount reports showing usage, sales generated, and performance metrics.

For a detailed breakdown of each permission with screenshots, see Shopify: Permissions required for Metorik.

About the tracking script

Metorik installs a lightweight JavaScript file on your store for attribution and conversion tracking:

  • What it does: Tracks the source of customers (for attribution reports) and conversions from emails sent via Metorik Engage.

  • Visual impact: None. The script runs silently in the background—there's no change to your storefront appearance.

  • Code visibility: You can view the script at any time at app.metorik.com/js/shopify/mtk.js.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues during the connection process:

  • Double-check your store URL — Make sure you're using the .myshopify.com URL, not your custom domain.

  • Permission errors — If Shopify shows an error after approving permissions, try the connection again from the Add Store page.

  • Still stuck? — Use the chat widget in Metorik to reach support. The team responds quickly and can help troubleshoot in real-time.

What's next

Once your store is connected and synced, you're ready to explore your data. A great place to start is browsing your orders dashboard or running your first report to see what Metorik can reveal about your store.
